Let’s attempt an opinion essay using the above
strategy.
It is often argued that newspapers should not
publish the personal lives of political leaders. (Paraphrase). This
essay completely agrees with this statement (Opinion) because personal information about the politicians
gives a chance to the rivals to take advantage, (Reason 1 why I agree) and it
also distracts them from their original work (Reason 2 why I agree).
In politics, parties often look for information
about the personal lifestyles, activities, and relationships of members of the
opposition to find out their weaknesses and to target them (Title
statement in line with idea 1). Such
information helps them to plot against the rival parties, and political leaders
use this information to manipulate the facts to ruin the images of each other (Explanation to
support the idea). For example, in
India, the media published the news of the secret second marriage of Mr. Vajpai
an Indian politician which resulted in his losing an election (Example to
provide further support to idea 1).
Another reason is that politicians lose focus on
their commitments and responsibilities and pay more attention to their image
building and also keep themselves updated by reading the articles published in
newspapers about them or watching the news broadcast on TV (Title
statement idea 2). They concentrate
more on seeking public attention as compared to their tasks, and they often
cancel their meetings and official tours at the cost to make a public
appearance to attract the attention of the public (Explanation). For instance,
Mr. Nawaz Sharif from Pakistan lost an election by 35% votes as a result of
distractions created by the media during the campaign (Example).
In conclusion, private information about politicians’ lifestyles should not be published in newspapers as it gives a chance to opposition parties to use the information against the politicians concerned and diverts the attention of political leaders from their work. (Reiterate opinion and main ideas) (Words 271)
